Robin May, 33, canadese. @robinmay su Instagram. Al momento ha più 158.000 followers e ha un grandissimo seguito. È stata appena intervistata da MTV e definita dalla rete televisiva “La regina di Instagram”. Eccovi la regina in tutto il suo splendore in un’intervista esclusiva per @Igersitalia. Intervista a cura di Andy Ferrario (IgersMilano).
Andy: Eri già appassionata di fotografia prima di iniziare ad usare Instagram o la stai scoprendo proprio adesso?
Robin: Ho sempre scattato fotografie, e girato video, e documentato la mia vita attraverso le parole. Non sono per niente una professionista, ma ho studiato cinema all’Università e dopo ho fatto un corso post-laurea in giornalismo televisivo. Senza dubbio la mia istruzione mi ha aiutata a sviluppare il mio occhio per la composizione.
A: Quando hai iniziato ad usare Instagram?
R: Ho iniziato ad usare Instagram nell’agosto 2011.
A: Cosa fotografi di solito? Hai dei soggetti in particolare che preferisci fotografare?
R: Per la maggior parte fotografo paesaggi naturalistici, perché è il posto dove sono più felice, ma il mio unico vero criterio per una foto di Instagram è che racconti in qualche modo la mia vita quotidiana. Mi piace condividere delle istantanee e scrivere una didascalia con quello che ho in mente in quel momento.
A: Mi piace lo stile che caratterizza le tue foto (ad esempio, i colori che saltano subito all’occhio dal tuo stream sono l’arancione e il nero). Usi un’app specifica per modificarle o hai un metodo che usi sempre? Come fai?
R: La mia “tavolozza” è caratterizzata dalle sfumature del marrone e del viola, e riesco ad ottenere un contrasto abbastanza caldo con diverse app. Attualmente le mie preferite sono PictureShow, CrossProcess e Snapseed. Come filtro di Instagram, adoro Rise.
A: Hai più di 162.000 followers e i tuoi scatti ricevono moltissimi like e commenti. Quale pensi che sia il segreto del tuo successo?
R: Ah, questa sì che è difficile! Credo che le persone si relazionino all’approccio molto personale che ho con Instagram. Condivido molto di me stessa attraverso parole ed immagini, e cerco anche di trasmettere energia positiva e un messaggio di speranza. Mi lego in modo sincero spesso con i miei followers e con le persone che seguo. Pubblico costantemente – a volte anche troppo! – e amo sinceramente questa piattaforma. Instagram mi ha unito con moltissime persone di tutto il mondo, e ogni giorno sono grata che esista. Sono certa che tutto questo entusiasmo traspaia dai miei feedback.
A: Ora sono curiosa di sapere qualcosa anche su i tuoi igers preferiti. Puoi farci qualche nome?
R: Non ho un iger preferito. Di solito seguo circa 250 – 300 persone, e apprezzo la prospettiva unica che ognuno di loro porta alla community. Parlando in generale, mi piace lo stream di chi pubblica foto giorno per giorno, ha una visione artistica, fornisce scorci che mi piacerebbe visitare o stili di vita che mi affascinano, limitano l’editing al minimo, si impegnano positivamente e condividono qualcosa della loro personalità. Robin May, 33, canadian. @robinmay on Instagram. Actually she have more than 158.000 followers and a huge success. She’s just been interviewed by MTV and defined by the network as the “Instagram queen”. Here she is the queen in all her glory in an exclusive interview for @Igersitalia. Andy: Did you practiced photography even before using Instagram?
Robin: I’ve always taken photos, and shot video, and documented my life in words. I am by no mean a professional, but I studied film in University and then did a post-graduate course in broadcasting journalism. This education certainly helped to develop my eye for composition.
A: When did you start using Instagram?
R: I started using in Instagram in august 2011.
A: What do you usually photograph? Do you have any favourite subjects?
R: I most commonly photograph natural landascapes, because this is where I am happiest, but my only real criteria for an Instagram photo is that it relate in some way to my everyday life. I like to share personal snapshots and caption them with whatever’s currently on my mind.
A: I love the style that characterize your pictures (orange and black colours stand out pretty much, for example). You use a specific way to edit your photos or what? How do you do that?
R: My palette tipically features shades of brown and purple, and I achieve a warm, low contrast look with a variety of apps. My current favourites are PictureShow, CorssProcess and Snapseed. I also love Instagram’s Rise filter.
A: You have more than 150.000 followers and your pics receive pretty much likes and comments. What do you think is the secret of your succes?
R: Ah, that’s a tricky question! I think that people connecct with my very personal approach to Instagram. I share a lot of myself throug words and pictures, and I also try to broadcast positive energy and a hopeful message. I enage sincerely and often with my followers and with people that I follow. I post consistently – sometimes too much! – And I genuinely love this platform. Instagram has united me with people all over the world, and I am grateful every day it exists. I’m sure this enthusiasm shines through my feed.
A: Now I’m courious to know something about your favourite igers. Can you tell us few names?
R: I don’t have a favourite IGer. I typically follow around 250 – 300 people, and I appreciate the unique perspective that they each bring to the community. Generally speaking, I enjoy streams by people who post daily, have an artistic eye, provide glimpses into places that I’d love to visit or lifestyles that fascinate me, keep their edits to a minimum, engage positively, and share a little bit of of their personality. Some examples would be @popesaintvictor, @matthewjay, @chrisconnolly, @kristinrogers, and @brenton_clarke.
